photo LIbrary project

What is the Photo Library Project?

The Photo Library template can be used to create a special project that provides an automatic way to organize and view the photos, videos and Live Photos in the photo library in your Photos app. When you create a Photo Library project and look at the 3D scenes, you'll find an exterior scene with a library building, a main room with timelines and some additional rooms with photo frames and other 3D models. One of the rooms is called Albums and contains shelves of 3D albums that automatically organize and display the photos and videos in all your albums, including shared iCloud albums.

The first time that you display a Story timeline or map in the Photo Library project,  you will be asked for permission for Movie Maker 3D to access some or all of the photos in your Photos photo library. We recommend that you grant Movie Maker 3D permission to access all of your photos so you can get the full benefit of the Photo Library project. When you grant Movie Maker 3D permission, it automatically creates stories for each day that you have photos and organizes them by time and location.

MAPS

Movie Maker 3D automatically creates maps from any of the GPS (Global Positioning System) locations that are in the photos, videos and Live Photos in a story. This is great for travel especially for somewhere like Iceland where locations such as Þorvaldseyrarvegur, Rangárþing eystra, South Iceland, Iceland are impossible to type. Locations can also be added manually by typing in location names that Movie Maker 3D can translate to GPS coordinates.

Tap Map to see the Map view. When viewing a map, tap on it and it will zoom to fill the screen. Tap and drag to pan around in the map and pinch to zoom in and out.

HOW DO I CHANGE THE LOCATION AND MAP FOR A STORY?

Each story has at least one location and location name associated with it. This "story location" is automatically set from the first photo in the story with a GPS location. Edit or replace this location and its name by tapping Edit while viewing the story and then tapping the current location name or empty location field.

Type a location name and Movie Maker 3D will progressively lookup the letters to find a matching location or locations that it will display in a popup. Tap on one of the displayed names and Movie Maker 3D will get the GPS coordinates for that location.

Tap Done to save the changes and Movie Maker 3D will display a map for the location.

WHAT ARE STORY SECTIONS AND HOW DO I CHANGE THE LOCATIONs AND MAPs IN THEM?

Movie Maker 3D automatically organizes the photos, videos and Live Photos in stories by time and divides them into sections based on GPS location. Each section that Movie Maker 3D creates has a location and location name as well as a blank text area to enter text. Edit the location name in any section just like the story location name, described above.

WHAT DO THE PINS IN A MAP REPRESENT?

The maps that Movie Maker 3D displays in stories also include pins showing the specific places of the photos, videos and Live Photos. The maps for each additional section in a story include pins for all the preceding locations so all the locations are displayed when scrolling.

HOW ARE MAPS SHOWN IN PRINTED STORIES?

When stories are printed on an AirPrint printer or made into a PDF, Movie Maker 3D includes a map as the last page. The map includes a pin for each of the stories and any sections that contain locations with GPS coordinates.

HOW CAN I DISABLE ALL MAPS IN movie Maker 3D?

Launch the iOS Settings app, scroll down and tap the Movie Maker 3D section and tap on Hide Maps

How do I move a photo or a bunch of photos?

Tap All stories or Map and select a story to move, tap the Share button in the upper right corner and then tap Copy to copy to the pasteboard or Copy to Another Project. Paste into an existing story or scene by going to Stories or Map, selecting a new or existing story and tapping Paste. Create a new story by tapping the Compose button and then tapping Paste to add the photos.

You can also tap and hold on a photo and choose Copy or Paste.

How do I copy, paste or share just 1 photo?

Tap and hold the photo, then choose Copy, Paste, Add Text Block or Share

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN HIDING AND REMOVING A PHOTO?

When the photos are automatically added you can Hide them. Hidden photos will be at the end of your story and you can unhide them anytime. When you manually add photos you can Remove them.

What is the number in the right hand corner of Some Stories on the Timeline?

The number is the total number of (unhidden) photos in the story.

How do I share Photos in a story?

To share all the photos in a story, tap the Timeline or Map, select the story, tap the Share button (up arrow in a box symbol) in the upper right, then choose your share method: Airdrop, Messages, Mail, Save, Copy, Save to Files, etc.

To share specific photos in a story, while viewing a story, tap Select, then tap the checkbox of the desired photos or videos to select them, then tap the Share button.

In order to share via Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram, Flickr, Vimeo, etc. you will need to download the corresponding app from the App Store, launch the app and log in. Once you do that, the app icon will appear when you tap the Share button.

Note: due to a limitation in Dropbox, to save photos to Dropbox, you'll have to select one photo at a time.

DOES Movie Maker 3D Make a CopY of MY PHOTOS?

When adding photos or videos to stories in most projects Movie Maker 3D, makes a copy of the files. This is required in order to make the photos, videos and Live Photos in your project visible to the other people you may invite to collaborate. This is also helpful because it ensures that the images that you share are the ones that will be visible to others, unaffected by whether you subsequently edit or delete the photos.

The Photo Library project is different because it is never shared with other people. In this case, Movie Maker 3D does not make normally make additional copies of your photos or use additional storage space on your device or iCloud. Movie Maker 3D only maintains links to the photo or video files in your Photos app photo library. The only exception is when you paste a photo from an app other than Photos (e.g., Safari, Mail) Movie Maker 3D will save a copy.

WHY ARE SOME PHOTOS BLURRY AND WHAT CAN I DO ABOUT IT?

Photos can be temporarily blurry (actually the low resolution thumbnail) before they are downloaded from iCloud.

What are Live Photos and how do they work?

Live Photos are really fun and Movie Maker 3D movies are the perfect way to share them.

  • A Live Photo is a combination of up to a three-second video and a still photo that is taken automatically when you press the shutter button in the Camera app (iPhone 6s or later, iPad (5th generation) or later, iPad Air (3rd generation), iPad mini (5th generation), and iPad Pro models from 2016 or later.) if Live Photos are turned on. It grabs up to 1.5 seconds of 960x720 video before and 1.5 seconds of video after you tap the shutter button.

  • Tap and hold anywhere on the photo and you will see the 2-3 second Live Photo with the moments just before and after it was taken.

  • When you Make a Movie in Movie Maker 3D it will include photos, videos, AR videos and Live Photos. If you do not want a particular photo or video included you can hide it by editing the story and tapping the Hide button.

WHAT ARE ICLOUD SHARED ALBUMS?

iCloud Shared Albums are a feature of the Photos app. In Photos, tap Albums to see your shared albums. Tap and copy the photos you want to add to a Movie Maker 3D scene and paste.

Why is my photo missing the location info?

Not all photos have location info. For example, the GPS on your iPhone or iPad may not have been able to determine your location when you were taking the photo. Or maybe you may have Location Services turned off in your Settings, or the Photos app may have Location Services disabled (Never) in the Settings app.

You can add location information to a story anytime. Tap Edit, then add the location to the Location Name text block.

If I delete a photo in the Photos app will it also be deleted in Movie Maker 3D?

The photo will be deleted except when it’s been shared to a shared scene, Movie Maker 3D makes a copy of it, so it will not be deleted from any stories in a shared scene.

Why do I see gray or black squares?

Because the photo has not been downloaded. If this persists Contact Us.

How do I add photos from Dropbox etc?

Tap the + button in a story to add photos and videos from the Files app. This enables you to add photos and videos from your devices, Mac, iCloud, Dropbox, Google Drive, Adobe Creative Cloud, etc. On an iPad you can also drag & drop photo and video files directly into a story.

Can I take photos or edit THem with apps besides the Camera app?

Yes, any app like Camera+, ProCamera, VSCO or Snapseed that allows you to save your photos and videos will work with Movie Maker 3D.

How do I make a movie (slideshow) with photos, Videos and live Photos?

If you added any photos, videos and Live Photos to a project they will be organized by date in Stories.

Make a movie with all the photos, videos and Live Photos in one story or select multiple stories by tapping the checkbox of the stories you want to include or tap on specific photos and videos. If you are viewing a single story, only that one story will be included. On the Mac, Make a Movie is on the File Menu

Make your movie full screen by tapping the Full Screen button in the upper left. Change the number of seconds per photo with the seconds per photo slider. This does not work with Live Photos or videos since they are always included at their full length. Share your movie by tapping the Share button.

WHY IS MY MOVIE BLACK?

When Movie Maker 3D is unable to obtain a full-resolution photo from iCloud or your Photo Library, the video frames may be black or you will receive an error. Sometimes you can try again when you have a better Internet connection. If that still doesn't work and you're willing to eliminate the problem photo, you can hide or remove it from the story.

HOW DO I CHANGE THE PLAY TIME OF A MOVIE?

Press and move the seconds per photo slider to your preferred time per image. Note that you cannot change the time for any of your added videos or Live Photos, since those are always included at their full length.
